Since 2020 the Lancaster Watershed Leadership Academy has been producing leaders who are inspired by and taking action at the intersections of clean water, leadership and Lancaster County.
During this course you will take a deep dive into agriculture, urban areas, conservation, and the unique water quality challenges Lancaster has…and is overcoming! Scholars from this program are driving the success we need. This experience builds your leadership skills such as public speaking, team work, trust, and group management.
Lancaster County has a unique culture and strong community. As part of this class, you will learn about the incredible network across the community, seeing how clean water connects us all. And you will become part of it!
Be ready to connect with your community, spend time outdoors learning about the natural world, and gain confidence to educate your neighbors about the importance of local water quality.
The course cost is $450; scholarship opportunities may be available upon request.
Applications due September 7th 2026.
What can scholars expect?
- One Saturday a month exploring Lancaster County’s watersheds through immersive visits to farms, local businesses, water treatment plans, local creeks, and more.
- One Thursday a month on a 90 minute zoom session led by industry experts in watershed science and leadership development.
- A 3 day, 2 night weekend retreat to the Chesapeake Bay as a capstone to the course
- Connections with community leaders across diverse sectors.
- A 12 month transformative learning opportunity with ~15 peers
- Access to an alumni network of local leaders who continue to inspire
- Monthly topics:
- January: Building Watershed Knowledge, Building Trust
- February: Water is LIfe – Human Health, Personal Strength, and Cementing Trust
- March: Agri-culture, Stewardship, and Leadership
- April: The Business of Agriculture
- May: Plans, Partnerships, and Sinking into Your Watershed
- June: Lancaster Water Week plus Where the Fields Meet the ‘Burbs
- July: Action Projects are due
- September: Urban Explorations in Lancaster City
- October: Agenda is designed by the scholars
- November: Capstone Trip to the Chesapeake Bay
- December: Commencement

Congratulations to the Class of 2025! On December 16, the 2025 cohort of Lancaster Watershed Leadership Academy held their graduation commencement ceremony. Accompanied by partners, family members and supporters, the newest alumni of the Academy were presented with their certificate of completion by instructors Allyson Gibson and Matt Royer before giving a brief speech about their experience in the program.
