Funding Opportunities

Several funding opportunities are currently available to support clean water, watershed restoration, and green infrastructure projects across the Chesapeake Bay region. These grants are designed to advance on the ground restoration, reduce nutrient and sediment pollution, and strengthen community based approaches to improving local water quality and habitat. Partners working at a variety of scales and stages are encouraged to explore these opportunities and consider how upcoming funding could help move conservation projects forward and expand their impact.
Green Streets, Green Jobs, Green Towns (G3) Grant Program
The Green Streets, Green Jobs, Green Towns (G3) Grant Program from Chesapeake Bay Trust is designed to support community-driven stormwater and green infrastructure projects that reduce runoff, enhance urban green space, improve local water quality, and boost livability within the Chesapeake Bay watershed. It funds a range of activities from conceptual planning and engineered designs to on-the-ground installation and community greening efforts. This year’s program also welcomes proposals for white papers and tools that advance green infrastructure practice and offers a charrette/technical assistance track to help with planning and design capacity. The program is funded in partnership with EPA Region III, the Chesapeake Bay Program, and the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, and encourages applications from municipalities, nonprofits, community organizations, and other local groups ready to implement innovative, sustainable solutions.
For the 2026 funding cycle, applications must be submitted by Friday, March 13, 2026, at 4:00 PM Eastern Time through Chesapeake Bay Trust’s online system. Make sure your project is located within the Chesapeake Bay watershed portions of Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., West Virginia, Virginia, or New York to be eligible to apply. The RFP includes details on eligible project tracks and funding request amounts, and you can begin your application online at the Chesapeake Bay Trust’s grant portal.

Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2)
The Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2), administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Bureau of Recreation and Conservation, provides state and federal funding to help communities improve access to parks and the outdoors, conserve natural resources, and support recreation and open space across Pennsylvania. Eligible entities like county and municipal governments, nonprofits, and certain agencies can apply for funding to plan, acquire, develop, or enhance public parks, trails, rivers, forests, and other conservation and recreation projects throughout the state.
For the 2026 cycle, applications are being accepted January 12 through April 30, 2026, through DCNR’s online grants portal. Typical individual awards range widely depending on project type, and the overall program supports approximately $50 million in grants annually. Prospective applicants should review eligibility criteria, matching requirements, and project categories on the DCNR website before submitting.

Innovative Nutrient and Sediment Reduction Grants
The Innovative Nutrient and Sediment Reduction (INSR) Grants program from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation is designed to fuel bold, collaborative action to improve water quality and reduce nutrient and sediment pollution across the Chesapeake Bay watershed. It invests in established regional partnerships that are ready to accelerate watershed restoration practice implementation, scale proven approaches, test new strategies, and strengthen collaborative capacity over the long term. This isn’t just about funding projects; it’s about helping groups of organizations work together more effectively to make measurable, lasting improvements in rivers, streams, and the Bay itself by reducing nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment loads.
For the 2026 cycle, the pre-proposal deadline is February 12, 2026 (by 12:00 p.m. Eastern) as part of the Chesapeake Bay Innovative Nutrient and Sediment Reduction Grants 2026 Request for Pre-Proposals. After pre-proposals are reviewed, selected applicants will be invited to submit full proposals later in the year. If your organization is part of or supporting a collaborative working within the Bay watershed and ready to scale impact, this is an opportunity to secure multi-year funding to support your efforts.

Chesapeake Bay Small Watershed Grants
The Chesapeake Bay Small Watershed Grants program, administered by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the federal-state Chesapeake Bay Program, supports voluntary, community-based efforts to protect and restore water quality and diverse habitats throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The program prioritizes activities that improve watershed health, reduce pollution, and engage stakeholders in conserving streams, rivers, estuaries, and surrounding lands in ways that benefit both nature and local communities.
For the current funding cycle, proposals are due April 2, 2026, and applicants can pursue support for direct on-the-ground implementation or for planning and technical assistance to build capacity for future restoration work. All projects must occur wholly within the Bay watershed and align with program priorities that contribute to measurable natural resource improvements.

Chesapeake WILD
The Chesapeake Watershed Investments for Landscape Defense (WILD) Grants Program is a partnership between the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service designed to help restore, protect, and connect vital fish and wildlife habitat across the Chesapeake Bay watershed. It’s rooted in a framework that brings together federal, state, and local partners to advance conservation priorities like improving water quality, boosting resilience to environmental change, expanding access to nature, and strengthening the capacity of communities and organizations working on the ground. The program offers three types of competitive funding—implementation, collaborative conservation, and planning/technical assistance grants—to support projects that deliver tangible conservation outcomes for species and places in this ecologically critical region.
As of the current round, proposals must be submitted by April 9, 2026 (due by 12:00 PM ET) to be considered for funding through the 2026 Request for Proposals, and all project work must take place entirely within the Chesapeake Bay watershed to align with the program’s goals.
