The Featherbranch Planting Project brought together community volunteers to restore native habitat near the Conestoga River at Historic Poole Forge Park in Narvon. On October 25, 2025, more than twenty volunteers planted 89 native trees and shrubs and 100 native perennials approximately 75 yards from the river, strengthening the riparian buffer and improving long term watershed health.
Volunteer recruitment combined outreach at community events, social media, and personal invitations, resulting in a well prepared and engaged group. Native trees and shrubs were sourced through regional conservation programs and local nurseries, while perennials were supported by funding from Lancaster Clean Water Partners.
The planting day was carefully organized, with materials staged in advance and clear instruction provided. All planting was completed efficiently, and plants were protected and marked to support future maintenance. Follow up plans include installing an interpretive sign and completing professional spring maintenance to ensure the plantings establish and thrive, creating lasting ecological and educational benefits for the park and surrounding watershed.
